Ayaan Hirsi Ali is a highly influential and controversial activist, intellectual, and feminist. Born in Somalia, she she fled an arranged marriage and took asylum in the Netherlands where she became a member of the Dutch parliament. Her outspoken opposition to Islamist extremism and emphasis on the rights of Muslim women made her the target of constant death threats and political attacks, prompting her to eventually move to the United States. Her books include Nomad, Heretic, and Infidel, and she is the founder of the Ayaan Hirsi Ali foundation and a fellow at the Hoover Institution.
